"Love interacting with teachers and other staff members. Enjoy teaching and helping kids to learn. Hate not pay increase. Same pay for about 12 years. It is no advance opportunity inside Kelly. Opportunities come only from the schools. Working as a substitute in Orlando you are not part of OCPS. So sometimes, at first, you get a "cold treatment"."
"Pay is worse than any other state in the country."
"The hours are great. They are regular school hours 7:30-3:30. I enjoy working with students to help them succeed in their assignments and to help them get to the graduation day. One thing I do not like about Substitute Teaching is there is not enough Substitute Teachers to go around and I have to teach three or four or more classes a day and it gets very old and tiring."
"A substitute is a position where you cannot move up in the workplace. You are stuck unless you want to continue a career in education, which is something that I do not plan on doing. The great thing about being a substitute is the experience that you gain from working with individuals of all ages. It opens and helps you improve your way of communication, which then enables you to better yourself in a career position."
"I love seeing a smile on my supervisor's face and making the kids happy. I love when a student succeeds at something that was a challenge for them. I love it when students try new things. I hate it when students are disrespectful, don't do their best, discourage other students, are messy, unfocused and don't get their work done."
"Teaching is not my passion and I found myself frustrated by the students' lack of enthusiasm for the learning process."
"There is an opportunity to learn from difficult situations and a chance to make an impact."
"Being able to set your own hours is nice. The jobulator app, which is utilized to secure work, is a bit unreliable at times but works sufficiently most of the time and allows for shifts to be picked up promptly. Working with kids is also a plus."
"I love teaching, however in a transformative society education is struggling to provide adequate community need for a global economy."
"I love working with teenagers especially with middle and high schoolers compare to elementary children. I find elementary children more challenging because they require a lot more attention and a lot of times it is so hard to deal with them. With teenagers, I really enjoy myself because they are fun and I try to be cool with them instead of being strict so they could learn in a better environment. One thing I hate about this job is that I do not get any benefits. Don't get paid during snow days."
"It was a great job while attending college."
"I love the environment. I do not like that it is not a permanent position."
"Being an educator is a great feeling."
"Like: Doing the job is straight forward, I remember substitutes as a kid. Dislike: No final achievement is ever really made, just sign up for another day and keep going."
