The Sherwin-Williams Company is the largest architectural paint manufacturer and retailer in the United States. Formed in 1866 and headquartered in Cleveland, OH, the Sherwin-Williams brand of coatings remains popular among professional painters and contractors due to the superior quality of its formulations and pigmentations. The company develops, produces, and distributes its premium products throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. It utilizes a number of distribution channels including company-owned retail stores, dealers, direct salespeople, third-party distributors, home centers, independent paint dealers and hardware stores. In addition to architectural house paints, Sherwin-Williams also manufactures commercial coatings for automotive, aeronautical, aerospace and marine applications.

In support of the company's extensive product lines, services such as color sampling, wood finishing, inventory management and equipment repairs are offered to its customers. The company maintains a positive financial outlook with an annual growth rate of approximately 10 percent. Along with the recent addition of 30 international branches, the reported first quarter revenue was in excess of $1.8 billion. Sherwin-Williams operates 564 branches, 3390 specialty paint stores and employs more than 32,000 people. A current focus of the company is its expansion into China with plans to become the largest coating manufacturer world-wide. Its primary competitors are Akzo Nobel, Benjamin Moore and Masco.
