"The work was proportionally challenging to my skills and experience. I had worked before with many of the engineers and we had a great respect and friendship towards each other."

"Unles you wish to work in Germany or Chine don't waste your time."

"They closed the development lab here in Vermont because of mismanagement and eventually went bankrupt."

"The management of a company that is so dependent upon the prices on the world market needs to be audited and decisions need to be more conservative."

"I love that my company will do anything necessary to output a top quality product. It makes me proud every time I see one of my vehicles on the road."

"I love my job, but at my level, there are limited advancement opportunities."

"The biggest struggle at my company is the cultural differences. I think my management recognizes this and must constantly adapt as our diversity increases."

"Chances are that no one will interview with this company, but if they do, it will be a different experience than I had. The company will be back from the grave, and I'll likely be the one hiring the technical staff."

"The amazingly long hours. The lack of people and hardware resources."

"We need to set more reasonable goals and time lines for the resources we have."

"Working within a small organization makes it very easy to build good relationships with my coworkers. I had a lot of freedom to pick and choose the specialized projects that I wanted to do."

"Keep an open line of communication with the co-workers and make sure you well-document your work."

"Not always having the tools needed. Not having a true engineering mentor. I'm not happy with the lack of benefits and financial compensation."

"Needs to bring in more talented workers and find a way to keep them motivated and on board."

"Multiple skill set required for the job is large. This helped to minimise boredom."

"skillset - java, C/C++, windows, linux, solaris, hp, geographically distributed work force"

"Huge software suite. Huge amount of time (70%) is required to integrate new code in the base."

"Mature the core base code and release stable builds or binaries to the core application teams."

"That the work location is too far from my family, that I cannot be home every day."

"Overall it is good, but company has not given a clear direction over past year."

"Flexible hours and some freedom to explore new approaches regarding unmanned vehicle development."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Be prepared to do jobs totally unrelated to your profession. Even though I am a proponent of learning new skills outside of your current skillset, my current employer had me perform ME and EE work the first few months when I do not have any expereince in these fields. My field is computer science."
What don't you like about working at Applied Research Associates?
"The constant changing of upper management (three division manager since I started May 2010) each having their own vision of what research we should be conducting. Unfortunately each manager's vision contradicts the previous manager's vision. Bottom line, there has not been a clear goal for our group over the past year."

"Define a clear goal for your employees and show some condidence in their abilities. Upper management has shown some weakness over the past year."
