Maintenance Supervisor

"I worked for EMD since 2005. They were a large manufacture of Locomotive equipment. The company was very strong, and was bought out by Progress Rail, div. of Caterpillar. The decided to move the company to North Carolina. They do not have their own maintenance dept.. I left them in June of 2020."

"The company has the facility that anyone can experience. It climate control and clean. The company has been a mom and pop business model so long that guidance is needed to step forward into 31 century process and organized manufacturing principles. You have opportunities for growth and cost opportunities and still use reactivate responsibility in stead of proactive leadership.and business management experience. We’re losing momentum and doing things twice which cost and profits will suffer. No one is watching the process nor have the authority to do what is different and effectively implement or improve. Communication isn’t used by everyone. Training doesn’t exist. Cross training and support is lacking. Too heavy in management and not enough knowledge about our kind of work to experience total positive experience needed to improve our business and creating quality of work and work life experience."

Sales Executive

"I worked for Progress Rail for 1 year and 8 months, before being downsized due to Covid-19. I sold vegetation management equipment to contractors who worked with utility companies. The products were the best in the industry and the people were awesome. Our chief competitor on the utility side was Jarraff Industries. Progress Rail's core business customers are, as the name suggests, railroad companies. We were owned by Caterpillar, and were able to garner some competitive advantages against the competition, by using their parts and service. Progress Rail is headquartered out of Albertville AL."

Production Manager

"The company as a whole is a good place to work. The downside is they are not open to change and to improve on the way things are done. The people who have worked there all of their careers are not open to any suggestions on any changes that will benefit the company and improve production."

"I've worked for Progress Rail since 2011. It's been a challenging and rewarding position working in the engineering and track services department. The railroad industry is completely unique and requires a lot of training that can only be done on the job, which has the ability to allow for growth."

"I've worked for Progress Rail under their locomotive services as a technical coordinator for 1.5 years. at the lowest levels the job is fantastic but the mid-level management is severely misguided and incompetent. The Work is easy and simple and requires a lot of high level thought for data analysis. My immediate supervisor is fantastic."

"Working for ProgressRail for close to 10 years I can definitely say they are a fantastic company to work for. The CEO/VP/Management are all easy to get along with and take recommendations seriously.I would like to see a better compensation package. Just because we are based in rural Alabama doesn't necessarily mean that we shouldn't get paid for our talents the same as our partner, EMD."
