"Provide family-centered care for our patients in a friendly, colorful atmosphere. One can observe staff and volunteers to see their genuine interest in caring for these patients and families."

"Be straightforward with your recruiter or interviewer. If you aren't certain of the answer to a question, it is okay to respond that you've not considered that -- I'd like a moment to think about my response. It's preferable to pause and delay your answer than to quickly guess and say what you think the interviewer wants to hear."

What don't you like about working at Phoenix Children's Hospital?

"40-minute commute for me from the North Valley. Small price to pay to be in a field that I love."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Continue to recruit clinical and administrative staff to become part of committees and teams working on issues such as electric documentation and preparation for accreditation reviews, etc."

"Schedule & flexibility with scheduling. Staff nurses are good people and work very hard for the families they take care of. There is a team effort during difficult times & that is how we all survive."

"Expect to work under high stress with little or no support. If you can work here you can work any where."

What don't you like about working at Phoenix Children's Hospital?

"Decrease in hours, no support during high acuity times, employees work 14 hours with one 1/2 hour break. This does not promote health in the employees ironically we are to promote health in our patients."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Utilize staffing agencies to provide adequate staffing during times of need. Allow more flexibility in cross training into other units when staffing needs are low without nurses having to give up their current positions. Bring in nurses just to break those on staff so that they can get breaks & lunches that are required by law."
