"It depends on the organization. The Internal Payroll group is tough to work for. Many developers and testers are not happy, but then again, some are. They are known to put you in a position or group that you don't want to work in without asking for your input. The rest of the company is not like this, otherwise it is a good company to work for."

"In the interview they lie and tell you that you will get a raise after you complete each step to your training and that that the training can be completed every 2 weeks but yet the supervisors will not schedule you for the training unless you pretty much beg them. The workload is more than the compensation provided. You will be told in the interview that you will be dealing with clients that have 50 employees or less with 60% of your clients have well over 100 employees. The supervisors pick and choose who they want to help. You are supposed to meet with your supervisor once a week for a one on one to discuss you stats, and I can tell you I have been with the company about 9 months and have had two one on ones but I have never seen my surveys and can't tell you what my stats are like because my supervisor has never provided them to me after asking for them several times. I think this company is a waste of time and the turnover is extremely high. Instead of promoting from within where they have senior specialists who have been here for 3 plus years, they are hiring supervisors with less than 6 months of payroll experience that haven't even became senior specialists. This place is a joke, there is no morale and the worst place to work."

"Totally dysfunctional. It's a wonder the software works at all. Used to be a fine organization but has gone downhill in the past couple years with the new management that thinks only of the bottom line and not the quality of the software."

"After working for several years, used to be a fine place to work when TG ran the business but recently is going in the wrong direction with a regime change of management. The new management team does not value long-term employees, recent "layoffs" are a sign of that, with many being replaced by H1B visas. Nepotism is the norm with the new management. The overall morale is low, people are walking on eggshells not knowing when the next shoe is to drop."

"Great company to work for, except in the development area. There needs to be some new blood with changes, but this company only hires from within for development managers and directors."

"I've been with paychex for 3 years. I have sold and been a manager during my time. The training is best in the industry. Career growth is available for top achievers. Where paychex falls a little behind is on rep compensation. If you hit all your objectives you can make some good money, but if you miss one, your pay will suffer."

"After working for several years, I find that the team is going in the wrong direction. The managers are not hiring based on merit, instead hiring new employees based on their friendship or relationship with the people they had in their college or previous company. The team morale is very very low, no team building activity happens. The manager doesn't maintain good relationship with the team, rather listens to some people in the team who are very cunning and more racist."

"Paychex is a great company to work for. The benefits are amazing, but sometimes the pay does match the amount of work you have to put forward. The people I work with are really great and my management team is really involved and do push personal development for every employee. The pay is very entry level but there are opportunities for moving up, especially if you are willing to relocate."

"I spent seventeen years at Paychex and received excellent training in payroll. As the company grew the ability of the individual to make a difference decreased dramatically and their goal for the payroll specialists was sameness. The use of call scripts and unnecessary forms as well as a poor software conversion led me to leave. They are a great company with excellent benefits but have lost the personal touch they had when I started."

"Very fun job as far as the actual workload, however the people I work with aren't the easiest to get along with. Company culture isn't the greatest, but I was working on cool projects and mostly people stayed out of my way and let me work. Definitely would recommend this position to someone if the salary was a bit higher."
