"I did not feel appreciated for all I did. They now issued a new rule that work comes first before school and family. I believe in bettering yourself and I felt that was a disappoint to all students they hired."

"I would suggest an equal amount of respect. Do no judge a book by its cover unless that cover is worn and battered. It is still working hard and still manages to impress."

"They have gone thru 2 sales business execs since I was let go, so they need to look deeper into why this is happening."

"When Boise purchased OMAX, culture changed and layoffs were every year for the last 4 years, uncertainty on jobs and promotions...not a good feeling..."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Treat veterans with some respect especially when they are exceeding their quotas and some DSM's do not do that."

"I loved having my own department to maintain. Each week I would check price points and rebuild displays as needed."

"If you are going to interview, make sure you have a good understanding of office supplies and customer service."

"I didn't like the fact that our store manager wasn't very focused on customer service."

"Some in IT management exercise extremely poor leadership and do not treat all employees with respect and dignity. They do not follow the core values, they set double standards, and create a toxic environment."

"Take leadership and social skill classes to set a good example as a leader and a visionary for subordinates to follow. Learn to treat employees with respect and dignity. You are giving the company a bad reputation."

"Gaining a larger portion of the market share, working with many different customers, in multiple different market segments and providing them with a service that assists them, presentations, bids and more."

"Be forthcoming with your needs and desires as they are very interested in each individual, their strengths and weaknesses and the improvement of the individual skill set."

"Their reputation in the marketplace at the time and the corporate direction being on hold at the time with no true CEO."

"None, this company has strong field management and good company values, was just experiencing growing pains and environmental market changes at the time."

"Tips for interviewing with the company. Always be honest, if you have to go to school you may want to look else where."

"Management, not listening and giving support as they should with the advocates."

"Clean house and start fresh. With center managers and supervisors."

What do you like about working at OfficeMax?

"I loved my customers, I loved the work I did, I loved my co-workers...the management is the problem. Both at the Corporate level and at the store level, that company is horribly run, takes advantage of its employees and is very suspect ethically. After seeing nearly every co-worker during the time I was there set up and mistreated, I wouldn't recommend that company to anyone."

"Look elsewhere for a different job. You will, honestly, get better pay at McDonalds."

What don't you like about working at OfficeMax?

"The problem with OfficeMax is the Corporate structure and the direct management. They treat the employees as wage slaves...I've never encountered it that bad before. I've seen co-workers fired on pretense days before Christmas just because they had been there for 5-6 years and earning more than minimum wage. I have seen management encourage employees to fudge sales (taking inappropriate discounts for customers) and then, when Loss Prevention comes in, the management throws the employees on the fire. In Prescott, they hire a lot of addiction recovery patients and use that against them. In other words, who are you going to believe The manager or some ex-heroin addict This company needs to be investigated by an honest outside source and the findings broadly published."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Stop treating employees like slaves on a plantation, threatening them with termination if they ASK for a day off."

"Nothing. The manager was a genuinely good person but the work was non-skilled labor."

"Approach it as you would approach any basic retail interview."

"The labor was unskilled and didn't require much thinking at all."

"There was nothing management could really do as this was just a run of the mill retail job."

"After the holiday season the store was dead. I couldnt apply my degree at OfficeMax becasue I am an art major."
