Working at New World Systems in Troy, MI: 6 Employee Reviews

New World Systems Employee

"I've been working for this company for 3 months, so far so good. People around me are very helpful and friendly. Upper management are making positive changes to the company that were surprisingly nice, for example, they just added one full week of vacation to almost everyone including new hires, that is you will get 3 weeks of paid vacation in your first year of working for the company, and every year there after you will get one extra vacation day (max 20 vacation days). I see developers playing Ping Pong using a smaller table, right next to their development stations. The company have arguably "the best" Public Safety Software and there is a ton of learning opportunities. Also, the company will be moving to state of the art facility by Oct 2015 which will be even better."

"They are an overall good company to work with. I would recommend them if they increased their starting pay to college grads."

"Abusive management. Punishes high performers. Rewards silent conformers."

What do you like about working at New World Systems?

"The majority of my colleagues are talented, hard working people who are great to work with. The pay wasn't bad."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you have any other options, take them. Do not consider New World as a long term career option. If you take a job, keep your resume active, get as much as you can out of the job and then move on."

What don't you like about working at New World Systems?

"Management cannot be trusted. You cannot believe anything you are told by management. Outdated and oppressive work rules. The HR dept is a corporate gestapo. Constant upper management churn has created an unstable and negative work environment. Independent thought, innovation and indivualism is crushed. The only way to get ahead is to conform, be silent, never offer a new idea or stand out in any way. If you are a talented, skilled performer the company will suck you dry and leave your career to wither and die. No flex time. no telecommuting. No trust in employees. There are almost no vertical growth opportunities. Come work for this company and lose who you are."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"As other posters have said, there is no point in offering any advice to managers. Any form of feedback or comment is viewed as disloyalty and ingratitude. If they were to listen to advice I would say they need to get a genuine HR department, all managers should be trained, and checks and balances need to be implemented to prevent rogue managers from running roughshod over their subordinates."

What do you like about working at New World Systems?

"the company is growing and stable, and until recently has been reserved about firing employees"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"- it's a logic test, either you know it like Spock or you don't"

What don't you like about working at New World Systems?

"- micro-management by mid-level managers- the entire development process is controlled by just a few individuals- too many negative politics- coworkers often talk behind each other's back- the company rewards process following, not aptitude- it's not developer friendly, you'll spend only a small percentage of time doing real development work- skills get rusty very quickly because you're not doing real development work most of the time- developers are forced to do weeks of monotonous regression testing at a time- pointless standup meetings- constant change in policy"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"- let your employees do their job, there are a lot of smart employees who can find creative solutions- stop oppressing your developers- treat your developers as developers, not sales people"
