"The company has gone through many growth stages and always has lay-offs of good people afterwards."

"Keep good people that have shown productivity, innovation and dedication, and trust the managers and team leaders to suggest pairing dead-weight."

"Enjoyed working in a NOC environment. Felt I contributed to the success of the IT team and overalll operation of the data center."

"Make sure sure technical skills are top notch and you present yourself in a confident and professional manner."

"I did not like how the management shut down the NOC and moved operation out of state."

"Take a closer look at the work performed by the operations personnel and the contribution made by employees before initiating a layoff"

"The people there played the games, not focusing on the work."

"No political things in the office, focus on the work straightforward."

"Co-workers, complex network infrastructure, job duties, problem solving experience obtained."

"Be very cautious about long-term promises or speculation...they are turning the entire IT network over to outsourcing companies by the end of 2012."

"The pitiful state of the first level management group in place."

"Don't place team leaders who could not do the jobs of the people they are charged with overseeing. Clueless leadership is a death knell."

"Be yourself and there will be no problems gettting hired."

"The HR department is run by discriminating people who dont value your opinions or help their employees. Very Disrespectful new employees."

"Hire better HR resources people and listen when employees have issues to report rather than dismiss them with no care."

"It is very interesting working on the ISP side of things. YOu get a very different viiew of the world. Routing tables can get so large they actually fill up the Routers memory."

"Know your networking basics and have at least a CCNA. After that be prepared to see many different vender's equipment and get ready to view networking from a whole different angle."
What don't you like about working at Windstream Communications?
"Honestly, my only complaint is that it is a 1099 contract position with no benefits. The work itself is a great experience."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Bring on good contractors faster than 6 months. Many of these contractors are 1099 positions with no benefits at all and make keeping these positions difficult."

"Upper management is disconnected from the staff and the technology."

"Listen more to the staff closer to the network and customers."

"It's a job. Short commute. Free coffee. Bike trail nearby."

"Negotiate a high salary and vacation early because raises are abysmal."

"Industry bottom benefits. CTO is an accountant and non-technical. Employees are treated like numbers."

"Better benefits, salary, vacation, flexible working hours. Less top heavy."

"Not innovative, old school management, mostly puppets, lack of leadership."

"You can get stuck where you are if you don't know know how to be a puppet and be a yes person."

"No hands on experience, cross training, and a lot of favoritism."
