"Worked for micheals as seasonal. Absolutely no training especially on safety issues around the truck mornings. Barely any hours, RUDE management and the pay is atrocious min wage. Would definitely not recommend working here even the discount isn’t worth it . Store is always dirty"

"Not paid enough for what we do. Employees working there longer being paid less than seasonal employees that were hired. New store manager is only getting cooperation because people are afraid of him and losing their jobs. They moved our best store manager to another district because the new store manager got tired of hearing about the old manager and how wonderful he was. The new manager is a personal friend of the district manager. Go figure why he's still there! People hate working there because of the new store manager's philosophy. It's not going to work."

"If you appreciate proper training, proper tools, recognition, and respect, this is NOT the company to work for. You are not trained, the tools are old and there's never enough, and you are constantly given conflicting duties such as - move customers through cashier line quickly, AND hold up the line by selling discount memberships. Everything you do is timed, so it is impossible to serve customers properly and get all of your duties done on time. Duties change constantly, often without being notified."

"I worked for this company for 5 years. I began as a seasonal employee and advanced to assistant store manager in a short period of time. Turnover is quite high. The workload for the average associate in a 5.5 hour shift is unrealistic at best. Although this company believes in customer service as its primary objective, associates are often reprimanded for not completing task work during their time on the sales floor. Store managers are under extraordinary pressure with very little if any assistance or encouragement from their district managers."

"My only complaint that I have is we don't get enough pay. But what do you expect from retail. I love my co-workers. Yes, there is drama but that's what you get from all different types of people working together. I have nothing but nice things to say about our store manger. He is awesome! All of the management in our store are wonderful. This is a second job for me so I don't expect to get rich from the pay. It helps pay some bills. I feel that I am fortunate to work there."

"Worked for Michaels for almost two years in multiple positions. Pay is low next to comparable retailers by almost $2.00 per hour. Training is minimal in entry-level positions such as replenishment and cashier. I hired on as seasonal help in late fall and was very poorly trained by someone who apparently knew very little about the job herself. You get the very basic training for cashier positions and learn the rest from behind the register - often with inadequate support. Given that the pay is substandard, they aren't exactly attracting the cream of the crop or enticing them to stay. We go through a lot of lazy & unprofessional cashiers. There is, however, slightly better opportunity for advancement than some of the reviews I've read seem to indicate. There's a high employee turnover rate due to the low pay and they don't pay management positions anymore lavishly than they do the rest of them. Management positions open frequently & they do promote from within - especially from within a store as often as possible. The best thing about working for Michaels? The people. My manager is great & I like my co-workers. We do well as a team. I stay for that reason, even though I could make more money for the same type of work elsewhere. I think if they paid a little more competitively, put more emphasis on training, and tried harder to hang onto experienced & hard working employees, they could be an excellent workplace."

"Downright the worst company to work for! Especially the Jensen Beach store. The Store Manager is not someone you want to work for. He will FIRE you if he doesn't like you even if you do your job correctly. If you so happen to stand up for yourself, you are on his 'list' (forget it, you're as good as gone). He NEVER closes the store or works mid shifts and says that the DM said it was okay... yeah sure! Why are you on the schedule as closing with another Manager then? He hates people, and has said it before. He hates working, he sits in the office doing nothing all day. Oh, wait! Does pretending to work count as doing something? Head rubbing, like you have a problem, doesn't count! I wish someone would just stand up to him and expose him for the fake he is! Terrible man to work for! I can't stress it enough. Don't go to work for this man!"

"The stores communication wasn't very good. I asked questions on the first couple days repeatedly and no one would tell me, then chided me for "not asking". Store lines remain long and you always have to call for backup, being the only person on the register. Basically slave labor."

"I do not recommend this company. I have been working here for a year now. I remember in the beginning I had virtually no training; they just threw me onto a register. I have also been verbally berated by coworkers and management for my intelligence and appearance. They will threaten to fire you if you do not get enough customer emails (25%). Our registers also frequently have problems and slow down when it gets busy - I have had customers walk out after getting frustrated from waiting so long. Management has asked me to leave early (after only working two hours) because they weren't making enough money. There is not much opportunity to get a raise or move up. They complain every time I have to switch shifts with someone. I have also been thrown into doing kids birthday parties and crafts activities with no prior knowledge or preparation. Their scheduling and organization is poor. The work environment is dreadful overall. The only enjoyable part of the job is the few friendly coworkers I have."

"In the past it was a great company, however, management has changed and company has become extremely greedy! They try to FORCE employees to sell more than the customers want and penalize you if you aren't able to get the sale. They should market and price so the customers want to purchase. Management demands more than is feasibly possible and keeps changing the rules. The DM is HORRIBLE and should be fired. She comes in and doesn't speak to employees unless to yell at them, except so very friendly when with a corporate representative. So very phoney! Morale is horrible - everyone wants to quit but needs the job. Corporate emphasis has changed to ONLY bottom line $ with no longer care for customers or employees. DON'T PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY - you are empowering them to mistreat employees!"
