"I found HDR in Folsom to be an excellent company to work for. It was a company large enough to have the resources needed for any project. I have a lot of respect for the managers in Folsom, especially the Manager of the Civil Design section."
"HDR has a strong foothold on the design community. We had true flexibility in hours and getting work done. Projects were diverse and complex. They provided a challenge. Good middle management team."
What do you like about working at HDR?
"The atmosphere at HDR was always charged with energy and excitement. I loved the position I had there and the work I was doing. There were plentiful extracurricular activities planned for employees that allowed us to get to know our coworkers in an out of office background. The company encouraged personal professional growth."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"If you do accept a position at HDR do not place loyalty to HDR over your own personal growth and benefits. This company will drop anyone at a minutes notice and will give no warning."
What don't you like about working at HDR?
"I was quite disappointed at the way I was let go from the company. The week after I finished a 2 year design of a hospital I was called into the section manager's office and told I was being laid off due to lack of work. No allowance was given for the hundreds of hours of overtime I had donated to the company or the fact that I was uniquely knowledgeable about many design desisions and subsystems of the building that would require further coordination and design."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Have more respect and compassion for your employees during the slow times. At previous companies where I have worked we were informed months in advance of the state of the work flow and people were warned if they were in danger of being laid off so they could begin their job search. HDR lays off employees with no warning and immediately locks them out of all company systems and escorts them from the building like criminals."
"I have worked at HDR for nearly 3 years, the employee ownership culture is infectious and simply awesome. The company is run well and offers plenty of flexibility. There is regional leadership that can drag things down at some times due to insufficient communication but that is certainly not a deterrent to the growth of the company."
"The Denver location has a great culture overall, and the office space is both comfortable and stunning. There are many processes that could be improved to increase efficiency and employee satisfaction."
"Large company with the opportunity for growth both professionally and in a technical aspect."
"Enjoy my coworkers and the atmosphere."
"It was great to work at an engineering firm with good values"
"I am able to work with great people and honestly love the work I do. The problem is the compensation for IT staff. They are far below market value and will not catch you up if you call them out on it."
"I would say my experience with HDR was very productive and informative."
What do you like about working at HDR?
"I like the hands on experience with business professionals along with the independent work environment ."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"I would tell them to come with your best or prepare to continue your job search."
What don't you like about working at HDR?
"The only problem with my previous employer would have to be the fact that I am no longer there."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"I suggest that they give me the opportunity to become a well rounded employee and I will do my part to not disappoint .."
