"I've worked for Harris Teeter Supermarkets, Inc. for nearly four years. HT is a respected grocery retail company with presence in Sussex County, Delaware since 2007. My fellow associates and I admire our department manager and the store management team. I would best describe my working relationship with my immediate supervisor as exemplary - she has picked me on several occasions to help open new stores in Virginia, DC, and Maryland, and she never hesitates to call me as a first choice whenever she needs extra help. Harris Teeter Supermarkets, Inc. has an impressive corporate management team, and the HT grocery chain is admired by its peers."
"I've only been there since Oct 2013. The job is easy but can be boring due to repetition. I have flexibility with my hours which is excellent. Management is cool but demanding at times. It's a good place to work if you're in between jobs. They do hire within for management positions but it takes a while for that to complete."

"Get used to working hard at a pay rate $0.50 above minimum wage with no chance of a raise. Don't expect to be able to work more than 28 hours a week, more like an average of 15. Expect that management will have out of this world expectations and will put it out on you when not met. And if going for overnight shifts don't plan on a chance to advance."
What don't you like about working at Harris Teeter?
"Lots of hard work always standing on your feet. The front end is not really engineered for tall people, always have to bend over to be able to use the registers causing back pain. The low pay compared with other companies with like jobs. The company has a goes out of its way to treat the customer right, but does not treat employees well."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"To increase wages of employees for the amount of work done.Don't expect the impossible from people every night (i.e. be short on people one night, have a large truck and still expect everything to be done in the morning). Oh, and don't over hire so much where you can only give employees 4 hrs a week."

The yogurts have to be formed into a wall, and they constantly fall over. The boxes of hot pockets and lean cuisines never want to stay upright. It's ridiculous."

"Ok for short term...too much frustration as direct management style is not conducive to ultimate production."
What don't you like about working at Harris Teeter?
"Need to accomplish projects within more structure. This is not possible because the direct supervisor would interfere with getting things finished... it was not a prime concern for jobs to be completed and work focus was always on the direct supervisor as though they were a celebrity. Very controlling, received no ideas and considered any offerings of suggestions to be an insubordinate act. Direct supervisor always wanted the purple jelly bean. Upper management, on the other hand, expected production.... work focus... perfection... that is good."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Place the direct supervisor in another area other than production....she was too obcessed with her importance...not interested in getting the work out. required a lot of personal attention..needy for friendship..enjoyed telling depressing tales of her homelife, forcing one to listen... interrupted work flow so projects were sabotaged... made like it was unimportant.. then held workers responsible when it all hit the fan."
