"Westinghouse Lighting: Trial by Fire"
What do you like about working at Westinghouse Lighting?
"It was good preparation for working in a fast-paced, corporate environment."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Be prepared to work with a lot of chatty women and people from the old school. This is essentially Angelo Bros. Lighting in a Westinghouse Lighting costume."
What don't you like about working at Westinghouse Lighting?
"They were very disorganized in their approach to handling workflow. Jobs were often left on people's desks without an explanation and when people had questions, managers were rarely available due to excessive meetings. The work environment was full of gossip, such that every small mistake was over-inflated until the whole department had a negative and inaccurate opinion of your performance."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Create more procedures and stick with them. Put together a well-written branding guide to increase consistency and save time on projects. Create a company handbook to ensure ethical business practices. Discourage negative whistle blowing and increase the level of professionalism in each department."

"It was once a steady, reliable job, working for a small family organization -- until they were forced to lay me off because of their financial difficulties."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Make sure you spell Lisa and Mike's Swiss-American family last name right: BRUHWILER. And it's pronounced Broo-Wy-Ler. (They're siblings.) Think really frugal, because the economy has seriously stung their business."
What don't you like about working at Bruwiler Precise Sales?
"No real chance for advancement; they were forced to relocate from Hollywood to Van Nays, which meant a horrendous commute from Whittier and no real personal life."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Mostly, they've got to get back to decent business first before I could really criticize them for not offering any decent opportunities for employee growth. Failing that, it'd be a moot point."

"Leave after six months, there are better opportunities with the same industry."

"The lack of vision for really talented people."

"To give people the position the can thrive in, not die."

"creating ads, working with customers"

"ask how many other artists have worked at that position in the past 2 years... if they are honest with you, you will probably keep moving on in your list of interviews. you will start out at $31.5K and get a regular 3% raise every year. I have no clue where they get off saying $68K is average, that is not true."
What don't you like about working at Homes & Land?
"stress from above when really, none of that was needed. backstabbing personalities in the drivers seat never tell you that the car you are in is headed for a wall, you had better have your seat belt on."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"be up front, honest, and friendly to your graphic artist. don't play games and run around the subject. The ownership had better get its act together soon, as well... yes, customers are what grows a business, but one like this is supported by the artist, and that is more than 70% of the deal"

"I was the entire product image and internal design department. I was good at what I did, repsected for what I did, and an integral link in the workings of the business. Very close staff, who believed in the products and services they provided."

"Upper management was in Massachusetts, we were in Pennsylvania - and eventually the entire operation was moved to New England. Then the company went under."

"No. It was a good place to work for the time."

"My position was going to remain just a temp and would never be added as staff employed by American Honda."

"The prospective employee should show a range of artwork from logos to web design in their portfolio."

"As a graphic designer, you don't get the commercial printing experience vs. the private sector."

"The Graphic Design career field should have been merged with Photography. Photography including choosing the right photo for a display is part of the design process."
