It can be hard to imagine that just over a century ago people did not have motorized vehicles. When someone needed to travel to a far distance, the most viable choices were by bicycle or carriage. One of the major issues with these modes of transportation was the longevity of the tires. Dedicated toward creating long lasting and quality tires, Goodyear was formed in 1989 in the city of Akron, Ohio, to ease the burden of this problem. Additional products that were manufactured by Goodyear included poker chips and rubber pads to be used on horses. With the advent of the first automobiles, the founder, Frank Seiberling, was asked to create a rubber wheel for these new automobiles.
