Engineering Analyst at Comerica

What do you like about working at Comerica?

"That hardly anyone pays attention to me and I am not challenged in any way, so it allows me to work on things that have nothing to do with the company."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Make sure you spend time interviewing the people who would be your peers and get the real story from them if you can."

What don't you like about working at Comerica?

"The bank is extremely risk-averse, which is predictable since it's a bank, but it affects every aspect. The most damaging influence is with HR; there is a policy or rule for everything that has burned Comerica in the past. With a policy, managers no longer need to think--they simply look to the policies. Comerica policies allow weak managers to persist, which drives away talent and artificially improves status of less talented, less deserving individuals... who become the future crop of leaders. The second most damaging influence of Comerica's risk-averse culture is that many decisions require multiple approvals, which takes an extremely long time due to the highly vertical structure."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Change the culture by focusing more on improving employee engagement, making our people the top priority."

Engineering Analyst at Nissan Motor

What do you like about working at Nissan Motor?

"The people I worked WITH. Some of these people were managers, some peers but whatever their standing in the company they understood that others are an important part of the process."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"don't do it."

What don't you like about working at Nissan Motor?

"The people I worked FOR. Those who think that everyone else is a tool to be used to advance their careers or their standing in the company. Also, micro-managers, organizational silos, and feudal practices. This is an extraordinarily inefficient and ineffective organization."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"get rid of the OCD control freaks in management - they stifle individual and corporate creativity and growth. They can be brilliant BUT they are incapable of managing PEOPLE - people are NOT the most important RESOURCE, they are the life blood of any organization; resources are consumed in the production."
