2.9 EMC is a good company that is unfortunately letting the race for quarterly earnings take it in a direction that doesn't balance financial gain with the happiness of the employees. Employees are exhorted to work hard and stay focused, but don't get the support or morale they need to do this. Too many employees I know are working here because they are too afraid to test the job market or have done this one job so long they don't think they can do anything else. I worry the drive for efficiency is going to lead to not enough qualified people to execute the vision the company has. Its other big challenge is executing corporate vision at the individual team level. The disconnect here makes for a contentious relationship between engineering and the rest of the company. The company has well designed strategies for moving all its technologies to the next wave of computing. Unfortunately the strategies keep running into the reality of engineering teams working on decade old product lines that are resisting the changes they need to make to deliver on that strategy. My shining light are the workers. Professional and personable, as individuals I met few people I wouldn't seek out to work with again. Co-workers really do have their fellows backs.

3.4 I've worked at EMC for 7 years. People were great. Sometimes the company lacked focus and grow so fast that it lost direction at times. Company hard troubles putting the big picture together and at times the product offering seem to conflict. Synergy could be improved. Organizational structure was the core of the lack of synergy. Too Many chiefs!!! Competition is fierce and the HW is a commodity thus not preventing competitive entry. SW is being focused which is good, however transition is poor. Transition would be better off if the change is driven from within instead of always looking outside for all the answers. Eventually by creating the constant purge the company loses its identity and is a breeding ground for more competition. EMC still needs to learn how to play nice with its ecosystem.

3.3 I worked for RSA as a contractor supporting a major bank. The products are great and the customer was enjoyable to work with. I was training to take over the prof services role so that the current person could move on to another role. I was there about 7 month and was just starting to get comfortable with the technology and was fully supporting the customer but instead of getting hired they moved someone from another group into the role and ended my contract. I feel it wasn't the best move on behalf of the customer as this person had to start over learning this product and the customer was introduced with another prof services person and wasn't very happy with starting over with another person taking over their account. I also didn't understand a decision like that which was to save money, but at what expense?
