Dollar Tree Inc. is a publicly-traded fortune 500 corporation listed on the NASDAQ. Founded in 1986, the company operates over 4000 discount variety stores throughout the continental United States. Dollar Tree specializes in fixed price merchandise retailing, with all items selling at one dollar each. The company has recently opened an additional chain, called Deal$, which offers more expensive discounted merchandise without fixed prices.
Dollar Tree careers fall into three broadly-based categories including in store careers, corporate careers and logistics careers. In store positions include retail local store management, stocking personnel, and clerks who work directly with customers. Corporate careers include a variety of business positions from marketing through accounting and upper management. Most corporate positions are located at Dollar Tree''s Chesapeake, VA, headquarters. Logistics careers at Dollar Tree encompass warehousing and transport of goods between stores and suppliers.
Dollar Tree stores sell three types of items including consumer consumables, variety merchandise and seasonal items. Consumables include food, candy, health and beauty aid items, paper products and household cleaning supplies. Variety merchandise encompasses items such as cards, small gifts, fashion accessories, party goods and toys. Seasonal items include holiday items like Christmas decorations and summer picnic ware. The broad-based appeal of the items and their one-dollar price point has been a successful combination for the corporation throughout its 25 years as a retail chain.
Full time employees working at Dollar Tree enjoy a cafeteria-style benefits plan with medical, dental and vision insurance, a prescription drug plan, disability coverage, company-paid life insurance, optional additional life insurance and health and dependent care reimbursement accounts. In an uncommon departure from the norm, Dollar Tree benefits are also offered to part-time employees, including medical insurance, preventive dental coverage, a prescription drug plan, life insurance and health and dependent care reimbursement accounts.
Dollar Tree culture is casual in the stores because employees complete stocking and inventory duties in addition to customer service. As a retail position, it is important to be able to work with the public while maintaining the positive and upbeat attitude encouraged by management. Those who prefer working in a non-retail capacity may enjoy a career in the logistics center. This work is also casual and includes packing and handling merchandise on its way to and from stores. Executive positions requiring business education, dress and demeanor are located at corporate headquarters and include a variety of business management positions. Dollar Tree offers several management training programs to encourage employee growth and development.
