What do you like about working at Last Mile Connections?
"Last Mile Connections was a start-up telecommunications company with a very interesting business plan to sell high speed broadband services using a reverse auction methodology where customers chose their price point and Last Mile found carriers who bid within the price range. Last Mile then conducted all business from order entry through installation for the purchasing customer. It was an opportunity to for me to apply the telecom knowledge I acquired at Verizon but with little bureaucracy and regulatory oversight. The environment allowed for more independent and progressive thinking. I wrote policy and procedures as I saw fit to best serve my customer base rather than to appease the state and federal regulatory agencies. Change happened as required and was ultimately more meaningful for my customers because it happened in a timely manner. Also, at Last Mile, I knew each and every customer personally due to the size of the customer base as compared to Verizon's customer base. I was able to conduct Voice of the Customer feedback sessions on a regular basis which kept customers engaged and retained."
What don't you like about working at Last Mile Connections?
"The only down side at Last Mile was not knowing whether our venture capitalists would be able to continue the financial support of the business until it was strong enough to stand on its own. Sadly, the bottom fell out of the market and we lost our funding which caused Last Mile to go out of business. I remained on to help close the business and make certain that each and every customer was moved to another carrier so that no service was interrupted."
