What do you like about working at Con-way?

"I loved being around people everyday and getting paid for it. I had more then 200 accounts so my day was never the same as the one before. My region was wonderful and I loved my manager."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Strong personality, and must understand that the job is not 8am-5pm more like 5am-10pm"

What don't you like about working at Con-way?

"The hours were crazy leaving little personal time. The requirements were hard to reach. Ten meetings a day can sometimes be defficult with the amount of drive time and if you did not reach this daily you would be in trouble"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Better training and to leave room for when mistakes happen. For example if a customer forgets a meeting or for some reason has to cancel the AE should not be in trouble for being short leading indicators especially if their sales numbers are good"

"You will work 70 plus hours a week."

"Start up regional LTL company with focus on people development and growth. Spun off from CF parent comopany in 1985 with dfocus on service in next day and 2nd day lanes. Developed the internal audit process for every part of the operation and initiated start up teams to ensure immediate compliance and udnerstanding of all processes/procedures within local managing group"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Do not allow cliches to develope within upper management group that affects middle mgt unfairly"

"The employee friendly they where"

"Don't tell them your in the military."

What don't you like about working at Con-way?

"There additude towards drivers."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Be more supported to there drivers and dispatchs. They are the meat and potatos of transportation."

"Not enough home time, typical for industry. Too mucy responsibility on drivers for failure."

"No suggestions for management. It's just the nature of trucking industry."

"The individual office and lack of supervision were perfect for me."

"If you want to work your hardest and get little recognition, this is the place for you to work."

"I was required to review my manager's emails and was made aware of an affair he was having with the Officer Manager...which got her a promotion. When I brought it to the attention of the Corporate office, they pushed it under the rug and worked to remove me from my position."

"Quit playing the good ole boy game and realize that just because they are your friends or colleagues they aren't the BEST person for the position."

"I worked a grueling night shift, and I worked outside and had to endure the elements; the heat, the cold, the wind and rain."

"have hands on operational knowledge prior to setting expectations or goals"

"Great place to work, without wanting to travel career opportunites were limited going forward."

What do you like about working at Con-way?

"It was a great place to work and if I wanted either to travel a lot or be a service center manager for the rest of my life then I would have stayed. But, I didn't so I only had one more step to go, which would have been a class 1 service center manager, before I platued out. I was considered a fast riser in the company, was one of the youngest class 3 managers, and my resignation took them by surprise. My wife and I are ready to move back to Kansas City to be closer to our families and we are at a place financially that we are able to do it now so why continue to work 80-100 hours if I don't plan on staying with the company"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be honest they do a very thorough background check. Stay away from negatives about your former employeer especially if it is over hour being worked too much. They like people that they think will stay with the company for a long time."

What don't you like about working at Con-way?

"80-100 hour weeks. New leadership seemed to struggle with what was needed operationally to succeed with new sales initiatives."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Better planning and execution with major sales initiatives to what is going to be needed operationally to make it a success. Because of this lack of planning it caused the service center managers to have to work 80-100 hours for the last 3 months (no end in site) just to stay on top of things."

"The pay was low for the area and the supervisor would always find ways to not give raises even with very good attendance and excellent reviews"

"Need to figure how you can give an excellent reviews to an employee and still not let them advance"
