"Very good company to work for. Company is heading in the right direction and employee morale is starting to drastically improve."
"I have worked with Con-way for 2 years. It has an old culture that is hard to work in. The upper management is great but it is hard to work with the middle management. The hourly employees have a hard time getting support from their supervisors which makes it difficult to do their jobs."
"A great company to begin career with but not a lot of growth."
"It was fun and a challenge, being the only IT support at the site, every technical issue will fall into my hands, and I have earned my respect by taking care of all the issues. I had created a friendly environment between users and admin."
"Good company, some not so great leaders."
"Con-Way Freight is a great company, great people. Lots of potential to learn, travel and grow. I recommend Con-Way as a future employer!"
"Working conditions are atrocious at best, they have little concern for providing a safe work environment in spite of the fact that they preach safety constantly. Working conditions are half way decent in the summer as they provide water for their workers. However their winter conditions are the bare minimum, their docks do not protect in the least against the elements. You drive on icy, wet, snow covered floors, and even with record low temps they expect you to continue to work exposed to the elements."

"Make sure you do everything to get your Regional Manager or Regional Sales Manager and Service Center Manager to like as it is a popularity contest. The good ole boy system exists there."
What don't you like about working at Con-way?
"Center Managers would get bad audits and they would transfer before this and would not be held accountable for the past service center they left.........I know of at least 3 Service Center managers who got promoted but after they left the audits showed they did poor job. Regional Managers were out of touch with there terminals. They had a few terminals that they would spend most of there time at. Setting up Pricing for a customer was way to hard. To many process to arrange for customer pricing. The NMFC Book is a joke. All the Truck lines want it to stay because it is too hard for customers to understand. This in turn allows the truck lines to re class frt and charge more money."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Keep up with the other carriers...............Allow sales to compete with one acct a month to gain market share. Bring Operations and Sales closer together. It is always a internal fight and sometimes they loose focus that the customer is the reason we were in business."

"You need to stand out, but in a good way. Also, appearance is highly valued within the company. Finally, slang is frowned upon, PROPER ENGLISH PEOPLE!!"
What don't you like about working at Con-way?
"The direct supervisor for my team is completely rude. Talk about MAJOR mood swings and never doing work. Any time I need to ask a question and I walk into ther cube, she is on her iPhone playing games or browsing the web. It is annoying when she does not help and it too busy with her own personal life. Due to the fact that the supervisor does care, the other employees don't either. I often find my co-workers doing the same thing as my supervisor. I end up doing much more of the work."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"I think the biggest thing is to make sure the staff is properly trained. Also, the whole answering a question with a question makes people feel dumb. Personally, I would not like to the the CEO, but if I were a supervisor, I think the biggest thing is making employees feel that they can alway come to you for help."
