What do you like about working at Cabot Microelectronics?

"Decent financial structure and when it was expanding there were opportunities to develop the products and the company. Interesting technology and had a decent senior manager that was agreeable to new ideas and spending money for R&D. Had money based on legacy products and good financial management. The industry at that time couldn't 'not make' money with its product lines. However, competition and bad new management has changed that."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"As questions when you interview. The company recently dropped its 401k contribution but none of the senior management took pay cuts. They also dropped some other benefits that were a stable at the company for quite a while (Health care). As about career advancement in the interview and ask why they use an outdated behavioral interview method to interview for a technical position. Be aware of potentially getting stuck in a dead end position."

What don't you like about working at Cabot Microelectronics?

"Bad middle management. No one there with any real semI process experience. The place also has pretty bad HR and petty politics. Unfortunately it makes money based on legacy products so people are content to simply keep the status quo. To many middle managers trying to be more than they are. There is also a tendency to promote based on personal preference rather than accomplishments and ability. Doesn't provide an atmosphere where effort is rewarded and the general workforce knows it."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Management Most of them are making ~$1.2 mill a year so they are pretty satisfied to simply sit and maintain the status quo. Hopefully, if revenues don't come back the shareholders should make a change in senior management. I think they need it. Get HR and internal hiring practices in order, you are hiring people who have no semI experience or managerial experience and it shows. Stop the politics and get back to core competences. If you don't start getting new products out there you will loose your IP on your legacy products and hence your margins. Remember Copper That was pure idiocy at its best."
