Bombardier Employee

"I started working at Bombardier Aerospace as a cooperative education student while in college and continued into a full time position after graduation. My experience has been alright but definitely not the best work environment I've been a part of. The management does not give a strong enough direction for others to follow, which causes many problems. While there are incentives for process improvements and individual advancement, there are mandatory systems in place that take away from important work and are not well put together to actually aid in the development of employees. There are still good things happening at Bombardier and many people who are good at their job which are key to the success of the company."

"I worked for Bombardier for 3 1/2 years. I came to appreciate those with whom I worked. I found that there was a large rift between management and the daily activity on the floor. The disconnect made it difficult, at times, to align expectations with production realities, and difficult to overcome obstacles."

"6 years at Learjet, no processes, poor work/life balance. Excessive overtime with no pay one year, then laid off the next. Satisfaction is very dependent on the organization you're in."

What do you like about working at Bombardier ?

"People were friendly and fun and daily schedule was flexible."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you live in Wichita and you don't have to move you could fit in. when I was there they were limiting hours paid to 40. Any overtime was comp time and was reimbursed with time off. I was a contractor and didn't fall under those rules. This means that as a direct you won't make much more than salary. I would not plan on a permanent position at this company until you have been through their review process. If yo start out at low pay they will problably like you but they can pretty much focus on anything and turn a positive in to a negative."

What don't you like about working at Bombardier ?

"Negative management philosophy. No tracking or mention of accomplishments and poor judgment on factors related to smarts on the job."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Adopt a positive management style. Meaning tracking of the persons assignments and accomplishments. Upon review start with that."
