Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Negotiate your title and pay up front. I have actively heard hiring managers say they want to get someone cheaper than they are worth."
What don't you like about working at BlackRock?
"People are simply motivated by advancing their title. The politics around this are simply awful. The reason for this rat race is because once you have reached the pay level and title of Managing Director, you can rest on your title and do no useful work. Additionally, communication at BlackRock is poor with too many meetings and an inbox deluged with blanket emails."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"I think our CEO has forgotten the third leg of the stakeholder stool: Shareholders, customers, AND employees. I would take Henry Ford's tact and share more of the company profits with employees, rather than cutting pay and then paying myself megamillions annually. Using te state of the financial industry as an excuse is deplorable when you extract millions in profits for your own coffers."
What do you like about working at BlackRock?
"Good pay and benefits, some great people, and interesting projects from time to time."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Ask about the budget. Maybe your department is lucky and can afford to put the right tools and people in the right place. Grill the people hiring on what you need to do to make the bosses look good, possible career paths, and where the company is going overall."
What don't you like about working at BlackRock?
"It's a challenge to get the proper system and tools in place with the budget and time constraints. It's unrealistic for a quality job to be done quickly, let alone cheaply. For an organization that is the largest asset manager in the world, it sometimes seems as if our budget is peanuts. There seems to be more of a focus on saving costs than putting the right people and the right equipment in the right place."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Focus more on retaining talent, training, and giving the right tools and systems to employees. Focus less on mergers and acquisitions, extreme savings, and get rid of useless/toxic employees."

"I’ve worked for BlackRock for almost two years now. Although I don’t enjoy the company culture, I think the dedication at the firm is admirable."
"BlackRock has an uber centralized IT and is a very cheap organization."
"Doers should avoid BlackRock. You cannot get anything meaningful done without having to navigate red tape, attend endless meetings, and withstand political backstabbing. If you do happen to be working on something meaningful, a senior manager will take it over after 90% completed saying, "This is too important to have a junior manager leading it". You will only be promoted if you are connected to the right people. If you are not connected, your "role" (defined by BLK and HR) will be deemed inappropriate for advancement. Either you move somewhere else internally, thereby resetting your service time for promotion, or you are out of luck. You can do everything for everyone, and then watch dead-weight get promoted ahead of you."
