"Overall the company was making great strides to improve employee engagement and were starting to straighten their safety programs with the direct employees."

"I worked for American Woodmark for eight years but sadly lost my job due to the pandemic's effect on the economy. I loved working for a company that employed some of the most amazing people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. In my tenure at the company, I made some lifetime friendships. I had several different supervisors over the years, and was always very pleased with management's performance. Of course, there are always things about an employer that employees may not like, and American Woodmark had its share of issues. But ultimately, they are a great company with an even better culture."

"I joined American Woodmark straight out of college in 2019. It is a good company, but the culture that it prides itself on varies widely plant-to-plant. This is a good company for someone desiring a laid-back role. It has 18 plants and 10,000 employees across the US and Mexico, having recently acquired RSI in 2017."

"I worked there for for almost two years, but was laid-off due to the pandemic. The company was going through a transitional period after acquiring RSI home products. Numerous changes and adapting was happening throughout that time. It has been difficult to integrate and have common goals."

"I worked for AWC seven years in the 90's, and now the past two years. This organization is a primary reason for attaining my college education. Not to use for the organization but to understand the "corporate culture" mental model built by executives. I found that AWC allows archaic mental models to control locations by promoting uneducated, tenured employees who have no business managing people, money, or processes. If you are an old timer willing to drink the Kool-Aid, this company is for you, if you want to learn and grow through quality leadership, mentors, and solid company foundations, keep looking. This company does NOT practice what they preach."

"Started strong then culture became all talk and little follow through"

What do you like about working at American Woodmark?

"Co-workers- Most employees in the plants are wonderful hardworking people"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Job market is picking up...keep looking! If you do decide to join their team, keep your resume out there and updated so when the opportunity to join a truly stellar company comes up you don't miss it because you have settled for AWC...not a place you want to stay long!"

What don't you like about working at American Woodmark?

"Unless you are part of the clique that worked at their Tahlequah location (closed that facility) you don't have much of a chance of promotion or longevity. The company talks a great deal about their culture but senior leadership does not walk the talk. Decisions are made based on relationships and not what is in the best interest of the organization and shareholders. Great deal of those in leadership positions lack even a bachelors degree. Turnover in salary positions at my facility was off the charts...lost close to 40% in little over a year. Corporate makes excuses instead of looking inward. Complete lack of diversity in hiring. Incredible amount of overtime for salary/hourly with no end in site. 11-12 hour days are the norm."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Break up the Tahlequah gang that are protecting each other. Diversity is greatly lacking in entire organization but especially in leadership positions. Give up the private jet and employees commuting every week from remote states when you have closed numerous plants."
