Working at Advanced Micro Devices can be an excellent experience for those that are passionate about the semiconductor industry. Advanced Micro Devices, more commonly known as AMD, is a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange. Their history includes a period where the processors produced by AMD were considered superior to Intel, which is one of their main competitors, in addition to IBM and NVidia. Although this intense competition has left Intel as a clear winner in recent years, AMD still maintains very high quality production facilities and provides both excellent products to consumers and components for other industries, which is the larger portion of their portfolio.

Advanced Micro was formed in 1969 and is currently headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. The company has 11,000 employees worldwide with 47 locations globally. The company generated $6.49 billion in sales for 2010. The strategy and mission for AMD have gone through some revisions in recent years to adapt more to what the industry is moving towards, including cloud computing and mobile device development. As a semiconductor designer, AMD has the capacity to innovate in many areas that most companies wouldn't be able to due to intense capital requirements.

The Advanced Micro Devices culture has been built by focusing on innovation and developing the talented employees that work there. Advanced Micro Devices careers are divided into three main areas of focus. These areas are engineering, software development to interact with the hardware, and the marketing department. Typical supporting positions for each area, such as management, administrative and clerical, are also available. The corporate culture promotes success, prosperity, and high standards of honesty and responsibility. Like any large company, there will be some exceptions, but overall, AMD has a mission of advancing technology and helping to develop the talents of their employees.

AMD benefits include a comprehensive insurance package including medical, dental, and vision. There is flexible time off with two weeks per year in the first year with an increase of accrued days each year. The benefits also include a health and wellness program designed to keep employees happy and healthy. In some locations, this will include onsite facilities. In some of the smaller offices, this may include partnerships with local recreation facilities as well as discounter gym or health club memberships negotiated at discounter rates.

Based on the country location, some of the additional benefits include adoption assistance, carpool arrangement assistance, day care benefits and a pre-tax flexible spending plan, retirement accounts, stock purchase programs, and tuition reimbursement based on eligibility.
