"I have worked at GM for over 2 years now. The work environment is fantastic . There is a lot of opportunity to learn and grow as a developer. Additionally, there are really smart and friendly people to work with. But on the individual basis there is a lot of stiff competition to get a promotion."

"The department was closed shortly after our installation was finished. All were retired, laid off, or moved."

What do you like about working at General Motors?

"It is challenging to meet the daily requirements."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be careful of offending your personal mentoring engineer and watch for economic downturns. This depression came out of nowhere and has destroyed me personally and psychologically."

What don't you like about working at General Motors?

"The decisions were made by committees. There was no freedom to make decisions relevant to the project, which is good and bad!"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"You will need launch help in the future and engineering maintenance. I don't know if I can support, due to the effects the economy has placed on me as a person but, I am still available."

"I was able to utilize my experience in electronics and my mechanical background. I was always using my head. There was never the same problem twice. I love troubleshooting and repairing things, so this job was a great fit for me."

"Nothing - I loved it all, but the plant I worked at was moved down south, and I was laid off."

"Follow the experienced personnel to get the job done right the first time. Have pride in our work, and in the company."

"Just be aware that if hired in as a contract worker, you will be treated differently and sometimes left out of the loop on many details and events."

"I was a contract employee and I was treated as an outsider."

"Management needs to learn to treat all employees with respect, whether or not they are contract or direct. We all do work to keep the company going."
