"General Motors is a great place to work. They're a large company that has hands in almost anything you can think of, technical or non-technical. They've allowed me to cut my teeth as a new engineer, and working for such a storied company on exciting products that people depend on every day is a fantastic feeling. If you want to work on things that people will review in-person on YouTube, for example, GM is a great place to be!"

"I was a contract employee for over 20 years and was hired directly by GM, but after 14 months I was laid off due to staff reductions. During my 14 months I worked with and for great people and was treated with respect."

"Worked at GM for 23 years. I was unluckily part of a large lay-off this last February 2019, when many of our transmission programs were reduced. I found the work to be challenging and rewarding. The jobs I held allowed me great flexibility when it came to raising a family. I'd recommend anyone spend some time working there."

Development Engineer

"It was a good place to work, with great resources, but there was a feeling of being insulated to the real (economic) world."

What do you like about working at General Motors?

"I liked the vast resources of GM. Being at the Proving Grounds allowed a lot of space and on-your-feet type work with the cars. You could make the job somewhat what you wanted."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Many of the employees there now have endured many cuts and downsizing. Consider the psychological effects of being an upbeat person around so many who view their job as survival, as opposed to working in their passion job."

What don't you like about working at General Motors?

"I disliked the cumbersome development process (too many involved in decisions), that it was not a lean organization, and that there were too many good old boys clogging up the opportunities for leaner-mindset people."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"GM has changed since I was there. They have had to face the reality of downsizing and bankruptcy (what I predicted 15 years earlier). To my amazement, all of my former work colleagues are still employed despite the bankruptcy. Did they cut enough fat"

Development Engineer

"GM has excellent advancement opportunities and career development programs."

Systems Analyst

"GM was a great company to work for."

Calibration Engineer

"It is a great place to work if one likes to explore the automotive industry."

What do you like about working at General Motors?

"Have enthusiasm for the automotive field and a willingness to learn a great deal."

What don't you like about working at General Motors?

"I had to drive for about an hour from my residence to work."

"Structure the company better by distributing work to appropriate personnel."
