"I worked for Vicor for 6 months in the Automation Co-op position. While there I gained experience in 3D design work, ladder logic programming, and automated workcell design. Despite being an intern, I was given plenty of real work to do, and was always encouraged to explore my own ideas as well as the ones I was given."
"The Good: Company supplements the cost of meals in the dining room. Due to the large volume of work, employees in the right departments learn a lot. The Bad: Middle management is more concerned with getting work done quickly, than getting it done right. There is a LOT of rework. Because upper management is more concerned about quantity over quality, middle management is free to treat employees badly. A blind eye is turned to the middle managers' hostile treatment of employees when metrics are increased. Management deems its normal, and in fact demands, employees to work a 70 hour workweek by increasing expected volume of work to an impossible goal. Management talks down to employees, with a great deal of hostility and rudeness. Employees are afraid to go to the Human Resources department because of past instance of management retribution. Most of the executive management is bordering on retirement, and are getting out now while they can. The VP of HR was a sudden and unexpected departure. Reliable rumor has it, VP of HR and CEO have butted heads about employment law. A great number of employees have also left the company. Management is not replacing these employees so they can show cost savings in their department. They are breaking up responsibilities and adding that work to other employees in the same department. Because of the terrible work environment, a high percent of employees are out looking for new jobs. In Conclusion: The company used to be GREAT to work for, but since a change in VP management 2 years ago, things have gone so far in the other direction it is almost unbearable. They need to bring in an employment consultant, who can assure confidentiality to employees that will look into the problems above. They can't keep hushing up employment law suits with money."
