Varian Medical Systems is a leading manufacturer of radiotherapy, radiosurgery, proton therapy, and brachytherapy devices and software. These devices are primarily used in the treatment of cancer. Russell H. Varian, Sigurd F. Varian, William Webster Hansen, and Edward Ginzton founded Varian in 1948 under the name Varian Associates. This early company sold the Klystron, the first tube that generated electromagnetic waves at microwave frequencies. In 1999, the company split into three divisions: Varian Semiconductor, Varian Inc., and Varian Medical Systems.

The company is currently headquartered in Palo Alto, California. Varian also has offices in various manufacturing sites in the United States, Europe, India, Russia, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brazil, Canada, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates. Currently, there are approximately 5,100 people working at Varian Medical Systems in 79 sales and support offices.
