"again...if you're in the guys club youre doing just fine if you are new or female forget it...the atmosphere there is like swimming in a huge shark tank with associates dismissing customers they dont feel will buy or buy big and snatching other customers"
What suggestions do you have for management?
"All stores are on the same page so when a customer drives from one to the other they get the same deal..we are all straight commission so then the other associate wins and you just wasted your whole day, we get threatened not to let corporate know about how each manager runs their own store some giving special schedules to certain associates some letting people work half a day if its nice out!"

"Value City Department Stores is no longer in business. There is a Value City Furniture business; however, the two are not related."

"They were open to any idea that improved performance, moral, or increased savings or productivity and if shown to be true would implement that idea regardless of who came up with the idea (whether an hourly associate, low-level supervisor, and on up)"
What don't you like about working at Value City?
"The Company was really not allowed to make money and operate the way it needed too. The owner had other companies tied to Value City so from his prospective we entered into agreements and made decisions that benefited his other companies rather than what was best for Value City."

"Managers who keep their egos in check, listen to their associates, lead by example , constantly look for ways of improving operations, and do the right thing make for an effective and successful manager"
"Value City was a good opportunity to work on the client side but unfortunately the company went out of business at the end of 2008."

"I liked the challenge of trying to get a struggling company to right the ship. I liked being able to look at each of our stores to make certain we were targeting them correctly with our plans and buys."

"It was a struggle to get management to try new opportunities but I was able to make some progress before the company went under at the end of 2008"
