"A fun and open job with a few setbacks"

What do you like about working at Utah Valley University?

"I love being an adjunct instructor because I only have to be on campus when I'm actually teaching. All of my preparation work can be done from home on my own schedule. That means that I have a lot of freedom during my day as long as I plan enough time to get all of my lesson plans and grading done."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"This is a great job if you love teaching and spending time with university students. However, you cannot rely on this job as a consistent paycheck -- make sure you have another part-time job or that this is just extra money (yeah, right)"

What don't you like about working at Utah Valley University?

"I don't like that I don't feel valued. It seems like the departments think of my as a filler for teaching the classes they have instead of as a valuable member of the faculty. The school also has a rule about how many classes I can teach, which limits my earning potential especially because it is a really low number of classes."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"It would be great if management asked for feedback (anonymously, of course), and then actually took that feedback into account. Academia is really old school, and it would be nice to shake things up and make things better."
