"According to the USPS RCAs are considered non-career associates. There are several routes within offices that are kept “vacant” for exorbitant lengths of time. In the office I worked there were four mail routes that had no full-time carriers. This meant four RCAs were on “hold down” for those routes. There were other routes within the office that needed RCAs to run routes because full-time associates were not available, either because of sick leave, vacation, or long-term injury. The USPS will allow routes to remain vacant for years, exploiting RCAs on mail routes, so the USPS does not have to hire full-time associates to run the mail routes. It could take over ten years as an RCA to get full-time with the USPS. This means years of exploitation, working weeks without days off, long hours, and no appreciation from a government entity. The day after Thanksgiving until December 24, as an RCA, you are required to work without any days off. Many days are 12 to 16 work hours and do not expect any apologies from management for being exploited."
