"Be sure that this position is something that fits with your career plans, both short-term and long-term. You should also be prepared to invest a lot of time with no tangible benefits, as this is a place where people are very secure in their positions. If you are going to work here, be prepared to see no vertical movement in your career for a while."

What don't you like about working at University of Pennsylvania?

"There are no opportunities for growth and advancement within my department. People in my position are also slightly handcuffed in terms of system access and autonomy, limiting how effective and helpful we can be. There are also lots of office quibbles that lead to gossiping, tattling, and general divisiveness. Also, too many people have low morale. It's insidious!"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Implement new service initiatives to ensure all assistant directors are providing utmost counsel. I would restructure the department to cross-train employees in order to eliminate redundant middle management positions. I would also create a better on-line presence for student financial services."

"Good pay for very manageable amount of work; fantastic, supportive boss; awesome colleagues."

"Express willingness to take on challenges and be independent, don't need too much hand-holding and guidance."

"Boss doesn't have enough time to ensure I have enough to do and that I'm being challenged."

"More collaboration among coworkers; workers very independently do their tasks, and I'd like to collaborate more."

"Very political environment and slow growth opportunities. The neighborhood is not safe at night."

"Establish internal growth opportunities. Pay was a bit behind the standard in teh industry."

"Never liked the Office Politics, phony and pretentious. If you have something to say, say it. Don't beat around the bush."

"This is a large University and Hospital. Each division may have positions available."

"Not a full time job, and hours are based on number of students signed up for courses."
