Overview
University of Delaware is currently the largest university in the state of Delaware. It is based in Newark, Delaware and was established in 1743, giving it a long and rich history. Currently, there are approximately 16 000 undergraduate and 3500 graduate students attending the university. While the university was first founded as a small school in 1743, it wasn't recognized as being an institution of higher learning until later on in 1833. The original class had only 10 students, which was actually the norm at the time. Three of these original students, James Smith, Thomas McKean and George Read would be signatories of the Declaration of Independence.
