"UL is a +125 year old company with a strong mission as a safety company The company started as a non-for-profit and converted to a for-profit entity about 15 years ago. The base pay is rather medium to low and yet there is a generous bonus program for all employees and benefits are very good especially for 401k match The company is going through some pains with a new CEO and some serious soul-searching regarding strategy and focus"
"I've worked at UL for almost three years now and it has been a great first job out of college. My coworkers in the tax department are the best! they make coming into the office (when we did) very enjoyable and my time here has felt like it has gone by so fast."
"I've worked at UL for about 8 months and it has been a great learning experience. While I do not get to interact with the clients directly, I have learned a lot about how consumer product safety testing works and how important it is for products on the market. Like most companies, it has its fair share of issues with organization, but the biggest issue is career advancement. There isn't much room for advancement or increase in pay. The employees at my location haven't been given a raise in over 2 years and the outlook for this year is also looking grim."
"This company has security but very little in the way of pay raises and promotions."
"I worked with UL for a year and the experience was great. They help their employees have the the ability to improve with a countless amount of training programs. They have a clear vision and work daily to achieve that goal."
"I've worked for UL as an RF Test Engineer Intern for the summer in 2019. It was a great experience being able to work in a group environment for the first time in a tech company. The management was excellent and offered continuous support throughout the internship duration."
"A very decent employer with a commitment to its mission of making the world a safer place"
"I've worked with UL for 2 years. The company mission is great, and integrity is a key value within UL. There is a lot of opportunity in the headquarters location (Northbrook). If you're looking for maximal growth, start there. Otherwise, there are site specific roles (Lighting/HVAC/Medical/Safety/Performance etc.) spread across the world."
"Great company with a great tradition and excellent products. But terrible management. I had 6 different managers in less than a year. They have the potential to do great things if they would be willing to overhaul their management structure."
"Low pay, suffocating structure and no help from the top down."
"UL is a company with a long history. They currently don't have a clear direction or middle management with ability to lead."
