U-Haul Employee

"I have worked for uHaul for two years now and was able to move up with the company quickly, the downside to this place, is everyone will say they have your back but the truth is they don't. Managers want it all to be about them but don't want to put in the work that a manager should put it, they put way too much off on their assistant managers, and the assistant manager doesn't get the support he or she needs from the staff because the managers won't let the assistant managers do anything to keep the store running. Most of the staff are rude and very unprofessional when it comes to their jobs, it more like they show up do a little bit of work then complain because they don't get a lot of hours or the size of their paycheck is not to their standards."

"U-haul International is a joke. I have been here for over 6 years without a single raise. I make $8.00 an hour and I have never once been written up. I have always exceeded in my goals. I have had the highest close ratio in the company now for 5 years running. DO NOT WORK HERE! DEAD END JOB!!"

"Great company to start out with but I felt that my growth was restricted due to the culture of the organization. To even use modern tools requires it to be passed up the supervisor chain where it will more than likely sit for a couple of months if you're lucky. But they do allow growth by education, which is always a plus."

"I have worked for Uhaul since 2011. It was my first job out of college and I have had a great experience working there. I very much enjoy working for them as the environment is great! If I was not moving I would definitely stay with them. A great company to work for."

"I worked for Camden Gold & Silver from June 2011 until October 2011. I enjoyed my time there because it helped for my character to shine forth. Not saying that the company had no character, but the stale character it had helped to illuminate my own. The job helped me as well because it gave me customer service and troubleshooting experience working with cell phones. The store developed a good relationship with its frequent customers, thus adding good word of mouth for potential customers."

General Manager

"This is the worst company I have ever worked for."

"I liked nothing while working for this company. Honestly its the worst job I have ever held."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Don't plan on making a career out of it. But do plan on feeling like your back in high school."

What don't you like about working at U-Haul?

"The entire place is a scam, they sell insurance with no license, do construction with no permits, seal up oil water separators with no permits, fire at will, no room to advance unless you are a friend or family member, give the centers hardly any payroll which requires the GM's to work crazy hours and yet you are required to knock out so much work, poor customer service, scary repairs on equipment, constantly told that you will be fired if this or that isn't done, fired if stores aren't making money but don't dare blame it on the economy, I could go on and on."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Stop hiring friends and family, they aren't cutting it. Give more payroll to run better stores with safer equipment."

Management Trainee

"Unrewarding, Unappreciative, Shoestring Budget"

What do you like about working at U-Haul?

"Reputable entry level management experience, good starting wage for entry level manager wanting to gain management experience."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"After looking at the P&L from the entire marketing company. The average Manager makes about $43k-50K a year. Ask for a minimum of $43 or you will spend your entire career trying to make $43k and never reap the benefits. Be firm with the Marketing Vice President and let him know you want to be in one store training at that location till you are ready to take over another store. Do not take the job if his intentions are to bounce you around the entire marketing companies stores to fix their problems. Because once the works caught up there will be no reason to keep you around. Lastly complaints are inevitable, especially concerning those with a unreliable skeleton crew who don't take ownership in the company. You cant pay someone $8.75 hour and expect them to want to work for you if you cant even take care of their financial problems."

What don't you like about working at U-Haul?

"60 hour work week, employees Upper Management has no idea what how to train Store managers for store. Upper management could not answer basic questions affiliated with the job which should be a basic requirement for their job. personal Overhead was ridiculously high, was spending around $600.00 just in Fuel and tolls to do job. Benefits were not given to management till 6 months after hire which is twice as long as most other companies. Operations are done with roughly less than 80000 a year for salary and wages. The employees are only hired as part time workers and do the very minimum to make it through the day. Upper management does not supply the GM with the proper guidelines to make the store run how they want it done."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Set up a better outline for the General Managers to follow. rewrite the operation procedures so that managers have a better flowing daily schedule to keep. More than anything"
