Total System Services, typically referred to as TSYS, is one of the largest credit card issuers and processors of merchant purchases. TSYS’s history dates back to 1959 when it began as a division of Columbus Bank & Trust (CB&T). By 1983, the company split from CB&T and started the service of processing credit cards for banks. CB&T retained the majority of ownership in the company until it became Synovus. In 1991, TSYS started to develop processing platforms. In 1994, it launched TS2, its first platform.

TSYS grew into an international company. It employs more than 8,000 people across 21 offices worldwide. The company designs its global payment solutions around the needs of the marketplace. TSYS products and services support the needs of multiple countries, languages and currencies.
