Working at State of Florida in Tallahassee, FL: 18 Employee Reviews

State of Florida Employee

"I have worked with FDACS for over 6 years, and while the work has been rewarding, very little gets acknowledged. My supervisor is fantastic but upper-division tends to bark orders with little to no guidance and no direction. Constantly repeat steps because no one in upper management listens."

"The work environment is fairly laid back and your coworkers are always willing to assist in brain storming or trying out different paths if it means finding a solution. Although it may be difficult to see the "big picture" through the monotony of a single day, if you take a step back, and consider the individual person's input, it becomes easier to see that they all do their best to reach and achieve their overall goals. Communication can be a bit stifled, but the documentation is improving and they display concern for each other's wellbeing; willing to assist each other in any way they are able. Although they are currently in the midst of a transition, the pace is not unbearable; additional tools may be necessary to track the duration of activities, since it's sometimes difficult to notice the end of the day approaching swiftly."

"FDEP is a very valuable agency in the state of Florida. Run by a Secretary that is appointed by the Governor, it is subject to having priorities change every time the secretary changes so can really make working there a challenge especially when the priorities of the agency takes a sudden turn and you don't agree with the principals leading to the turn. Because it is an executive agency, there is politics in rules, travel, workshops and decisions so that can be frustrating. With that said, it is a very good agency to work for. It is well funded and provides a critical service for the citizens of the state."

"Workplace environment appallingly depressing due to oppressive upper management. Need 20-30 years investment in job for potential to advance, or political connections."

"I worked 2.5 years and the team heavily depended on mainframe computer using outdated technology. After SQL server was introduced, many new programs were developed even with inadequate funding."
