Southeastern Louisiana University is a highly regarded public university. The main campus is located in Hammond, Louisiana, and the school has four satellite properties. The university is more commonly called Southeastern or SLU. Linus Sims, a local high school principal, established Southeastern in 1925. Originally, the school served as a junior college for the area's high school graduates.
SLU has grown into one of Louisiana's largest institutions of higher learning. The university enrolls approximately 17,000 students from more than 50 countries.
