Southeastern Louisiana University Employee

"I have got significant work experience from the university, but working for around 3 and half years it's finally time to say goodbye. One of the best things was the flexibility that I got for my job to be done."

Student Office Assistant

"The people are great and trust me enough to even ask my advice on decisions."

What do you like about working at Southeastern Louisiana University?

"The atmosphere is what I like to call casual-professional. Even the professors come in wearing a t-shirt and flip flops. Even so, everyone gives it their all and there is always respect among co-workers."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Work hard and don't get too caught up in the casual atmosphere. We've hired other student workers in the past who noticed the high amounts of lateral communication as well as the casual dress and thought they could get away with slacking on their work. They didn't last long. The faculty, staff and student body as a whole likes to get along, but running the department properly comes first."

What don't you like about working at Southeastern Louisiana University?

"The pay is barely above minimum wage, I can only work 20 hours a week and there is no advancement available. I know that if policy were different they would offer me more pay and hours, but I'm just a student worker and the position is part-time. There's not much that can be done."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"The major problem is that the department head for the over-arching Fine & Performing Arts Department doesn't always communicate his schedule well and he can be difficult to track down. He has multiple offices and when he hops from building to building or elsewhere he slips out without saying anything. It's far from a major annoyance though, he's a great boss to work for."

"Shaky job stability at best. Tough financial times last 4 years here."
