"I like solving puzzles or problems and software development fills that need (for the most part). Managing software developers brings a whole new level of complexity (people problems are harder and sometimes do not have a good solution) but are more rewarding because of that."
"I love what I do. Developing solutions to company problems and processes is awesome and I love doing it by creating a custom piece of software that makes everyone's lives easier. It really is great and I love helping the other members of my team develop and grow and create awesome applications as well."
"Love working with people and developing relationships.Hate continuous do more with less attitude, but understand the need for it."
"While it was difficult at first, I loved helping people solve problems that they didn't think they could solve at first. Also, being able to help resolve people problems (conflicts, developmental needs, and so on) was very rewarding as these tend to be more complex than technical problems. On the downside, people problems tend to take longer to verify that you are on the right track. Also, it can be frustrating for hands-on people to have to work through others to solve problems."
"The thing I miss most is being able to resolve technical problems from start to finish. As a manager, the people problems are more challenging, which is good, but less tangible/certain. Working through other people is harder than doing it yourself and, in many cases, you aren't sure that you are making progress until much further in the process. On the other hand, the satisfaction of seeing someone overcome a problem that truly challenged them is like watching kids open Christmas presents."
"I love having the responsibility to lead a team of my peers in creating software while focusing on excellence and the needs of the customer. I enjoyed being able to mentor others and sharing the benefits of the knowledge I've gathered from 15+ years of software development."

What suggestions do you have for management?
