Sales agents assist customers in selecting a product that they need or want. On a regular day, a sales agent will give thorough demonstrations of the way a product works and spend time explaining the features and benefits of an item to customers. Sending follow-up emails, answering retail questions and keeping a showroom floor looking appealing and organized are common duties for someone in this profession.
Skillset: Sales agents are excellent communicators and have an ability to explain things clearly to people. An ability to establish a rapport with customers and an eye for detail are necessary traits for a person to succeed in this occupation. It is also a good idea for a person to be familiar with the retail industry he works in and to study to become completely knowledgeable and efficient concerning the products he or she is selling.
Education: Many sales agents can enter into a career industry without an advanced degree. However, bachelor degrees in commerce, business or marketing are suggested. Retail and customer service work experience are also helpful.
Career Path: Great customer service skills and exceptional oral communication skills are the basis for a strong career in the sales industry.
