"I migrated to embedded software development rather slowly in my career. I used to think software is not for me so I did a lot of hardware design earlier on in my career and did the bare minimum software that would make the product I was working on come to life. I later learnt that software can be just as challenging as hardware design, and it was turning out that a lot of my hardware design was based on writing code (VHDL, Verilog). I love doing Software design and implementation and take pride is developing modular, readable, maintainable and testable software. I hate spaghetti code (I have written my share of that earlier on in my career) that I have to read, understand and fix."

"While the company can be a great place to work at, I would recommend considering something else until after the economy recovers. The company has laid off approximately 20,000 employee in the past three years and is in the middle of a new round of layoffs."
What don't you like about working at Lockheed Martin?
"The company is a good place to work, however with the current down turn in the economy and the additional defense budget cuts the company is in its third year of layoffs with no end in sight."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Basically to get their act together, they do not seem to value their employees experience or at least they give the impression that the feel that they can just hire anyone off the street to do these engineering jobs."
