"Back in the Tech Bubble heyday, Digl was demanding and very rewarding."
What do you like about working at Digital Lightwave?
"My hard work paying off to the tune of over $1.5M in a 5 year span. We were developing leading edge Telecom test gear that no one else had. It was very satisfying to be the lead dog. I also ended up with a patent."
What don't you like about working at Digital Lightwave?
"I hated to see the end brought on by the tech bubble burst. Not only from a financial prospective, but from an industry leader perspective."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"None, I would not have traded that experience for anything. If I had to do it all over, I would. The crazy hours, the crazy deadlines....looking back it was one hell of a run. It's all changed now, I do consulting work from time to time for them and they are on the cusp of closing the doors forever."

"The work was interesting and challenging, however due to politics the R&D remote site was closed down."
What do you like about working at Acterna?
"Our small group of 8 people took an inherited single board design and quickly turned it into a thriving product line with revenues approaching 15M. We were self sustaining, self motivated, driven group of professionals."
What don't you like about working at Acterna?
"We were a victim of our own success, our thriving product line made us attractive for different divisions to try pull us in because we were one of the few profit centers for the company. Our remote R&D center was ultimately shut down and offers made to the group to relocate (no one made the move). It was a power play to try and end the divisional jockeying for our profitable group. By adding our group in a division, we made the bottom line look better. So, naturally everyone wanted a profit center for their bottom line."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Nothing really, they eventually demoted and laid off the decision makers for the ill fated profit grab. It was just too late to undo the damage. I still converse with some of the upper management on a regular basis."

"People and security"

"lack of personal growth oppertunities"

"More incuragement for professional growth"

"9 years at NXP formerly Philips Semiconductors (2 years as Intern) shows I was content working there."
What do you like about working at NXP Semiconductors?
"NXP was alway on the cutting edge of technology. I migrated 3 times within the company to learn new skill sets and grow."
What don't you like about working at NXP Semiconductors?
"When I left NXP, I had survived 7 RIFs and what was once a thriving company had been changed into a small group of people. Moral was low and there was talk of closing down the site. I was given an opportunity to jump and I took it."

"Working with very competent people on very challenging projects"

"The schedule was so demanding that it had to be revised daily making it hard to keep track of your goals."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Implement the critical path method of scheduling so as to not overlap tasks."

What do you like about working at Stryker?
"Opportunities for R&D were great. Got to work on some very cool medical device designs, go into operating rooms to see surgeries, learned a lot about FDA Quality Systems, medical device validation & regulatory. Lots of R&D resources, in house prototyping & testing opportunities."
What don't you like about working at Stryker?
"They use very inexperienced junior managers/supervisors to run R&D projects. Lots of time wasted from managers bad judgment cost design teams a lot in time and money. The pace of work was so fast nothing could be done thoroughly - had to punt to sustainability team and move on to next project."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Use more experienced managers. Listen to senior/chief engineers when they tell you a jr manager is in trouble (take quick action to replace failing jr managers) and reduce attrition in engineering groups. Pay competitive salaries (not just average!). Give better benefits, especially health care/major medical/dental/vision (United Healthcare was the worst I've ever seen!). Keep the performance based incentives, e.g. 20% annual growth tied to bonuses at ALL levels of the organization, 401K matching, etc."
