As a billing specialist, your responsibility is to compile data, prepare invoices, compute charges and fees for billing purposes. Some common duties are that of calculating rates for services, goods, shipping goods, computing costs, posting data and keeping important records. You may need to use the computer, calculator, typewriter and adding machines.
Skill Sets: One of the main roles you have is to interact with computers for programming them, setting up functions, entering data and processing information. Beyond just working with computers, you will also need to communicate with your superiors, subordinates and peers. You will need to provide them with information via email, telephone, in person or through a written letter.
Education: When it comes to working as a billing specialist, there is no education required to work in this field. No college majors are associated with this position, so anyone can begin a career as a billing specialist.
Career Path: Some of the common careers associated with this type of work are that of billing clerks, statement clerks, bill collectors, accounting clerks and gaming cage workers to name a few. Plenty of other opportunities exist, but it is up to you to choose the one that works for your needs.
