3.5I have been with Scholastic for the past 6 years. Scholastic is historically a book publisher who has been playing catch-up in the world of software.
I started out in Quality Assurance, leading projects and training new employees. When the Performance Team was formed, I pushed internally to shift into Performance Testing.
The framework for making such a move did not exist in any structured manor. However, management was instrumental in backing my move into Performance Engineering.
3.9Scholastic was a fine company to work for, though almost all employees are contract temps so you may be out of work shortly after a product ships or just a few months after for bug fixes and patches once the public starts using the software. And as you get farther from release date, there becomes less and less work to do, teams get merged and then there is nothing to do.
1.7I worked 2 years as a software manager at Scholastic. 85% of the employees are contractors. There is no opportunity for a permanent position unless you are senior management. There is a class system between the perms and the contractors. The company has zero money to spend on anything, the physical plant is totally heinous. Its a civil-war era brick building full of mold, asbestos and who knows what else. The management team doesn't care about anyone and they are outsourcing everything.
