Research in Motion or RIM is a manufacturer of telecommunications equipment based in Canada that is famous for making the BlackBerry smartphone. The company is headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada and has been founded by Mike Lazaridis in 1984.

The company began by providing various two way paging solutions, which were mainly used for business purposes during the 80's and 90's. Their selection of devices have evolved and the company now provides mobile communication devices which are used on iDEN, CDMA and GSM networks around the world. The majority of mobile carriers in North America have at least one BlackBerry product. The company also makes a tablet called the PlayBook.
