"I've worked for ReachLocal since 2010. The company has grown exponentially since I began working there. They now employ over 2,000 people across 18 different countries worldwide. The culture of the company remains that of a startup, however. It has been an excellent experience working for ReachLocal, but some people need more of a challenge."

"The overall work environment here is employee centric, but there's a lot of excess that would make this company much more efficient if it were to focus more on who's producing versus who's not producing. It's average all the way around, but the technology is amazing. Several senior officers left this company, which is never a positive sign. Nathan Hanks was awesome, but new leadership still has some big shoes to fill with Nathan's absence as the last founding member leaves ReachLocal."

Training Coordinator

What do you like about working at ReachLocal?

"Great emphasis on Sales Training Program for all new hires."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"As long as you are in Sales and are ok with not making much money for a base you are good to go."

What don't you like about working at ReachLocal?

"The company grew so fast they threw dollars at on boarding training. There was lots of emphasis on ongoing sales training programs but unless you were part of the sales team or services team, there we're few development opportunities offered for other departments."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"One of the founders attends every training class for new hired and is very much engaged from the start. What he lacks in is anyone who is not in a revenue producing role within the company. If I were running the show I would stay engaged with all employees within the company not just the ones that service the bottom line revenue stream."

"Corporate feel. Management changed quickly during the pandemic and the training and relationship did not necessarily transfer to the new manager (he was also out of state). I was a month into building a book of business when the pandemic hit and then was almost immediately put on a plan to "increase performance" although the landscape of the marketing world had changed completely. It was not a correct justification other than they wanted more sales. This was not a typical time and businesses all over were shut down or doing less than usual with fewer employees. It stifled even the best salesmen at the company unless they had well-established relationships across the country. Not a bad company but was not afforded a typical chance at success."

"ReachLocal was an incredible place to work right up until about 2017, when Gannett aquired them. Gannett (USA TODAY) is so out of touch with reality and the digital world and they seem to prefer doing business the way they did when print was king. Old school, super corporate and out of touch. The culture is poor and the product offering is stagnant, at best. Too many competitors in this space to not stay cutting edge. My guess is that they will go OOB within the next 5 years (if not sooner)."

"Learned a lot about the industry. Not the best fit for me."

What do you like about working at ReachLocal?

"Training is a very high priority at this company. The initial training program is very extensive, and their is a focus on ongoing training as well."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Existing experience selling advertising of any sort seems to be what they like."

What don't you like about working at ReachLocal?

"The compensation plan was not in line with the industry standards."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Consider making the compensation plan more aggressive to provide incentive for newer reps."

"ReachLocal was a great place to work, but then we went public and the founders left and the new management got fired and then the next new management got fired and now the new new management wants all tech staff who have been at ReachLocal for more than 5 years to leave and has threatened layoffs, so we had two rounds of layoffs and lots of people left and now nobody knows how the software works or what it was supposed to do, and now they are outsourcing everything to Mumbai."

"Let's be real now..."

What do you like about working at ReachLocal?

"You get paid a decent amount with little or no experience. If you were hired at a real company, you wouldn't nearly make as much as the idiots at RL pay. But there's a reason behind that. They break out the process of the business, so you learn only ONE thing, so you're pretty much screwed if you try to leave. Smart thinking you genius bastards!"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Yea, for chicks...they really dig cute ones. Really depends on who the hiring manager is as well."

What don't you like about working at ReachLocal?

"Where do I beginEither sleep your way to the top (cough cough: customer support, then manage CP, then corporate apartment with car and then traveling international, all with no experience and less than 2 years)Be the lucky guy who just happens to be in the right place at the right time.Have a hiring manager be your friend, that'll get you a manager position right off the bat.Have attended/graduated from the same school of a hiring manager - apparently this works too."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Most of these managers have not a clue how to manage. First job as a 'manager' and the ego gets boosted. Let's get real, you wouldn't survive in a real job out in the real world. You'd be chewed up and spit out, that's why you stick to RL."

"Cutting edge company with great growth potential."

"ReachLocal Rocks. Just know the only place you'll find success before work is in the dictionary."

What do you like about working at ReachLocal?

"I'd never heard of ReachLocal when recruiting contacted me. Unsure, I discussed the opportunity with a business mentor of mine. Thankfully (a business owner herself) she explained to me the need for RL's services and the value of a consultant working side by side with her to develop online marketing strategies . I accepted a position with ReachLocal on my birthday. Having been a part of the team now for nearly two years, I consider this job one of the best gifts Ive ever received. There is nothing better than representing a company that is client (and employee) centric. ReachLocals success comes from a combination of unreal technology powering products/services in demand and people who care selling them. Unlike my previous sales job, ReachLocal offers a work environment that is mature, supportive and fun. Offices are filled with dynamic consultants whose passion is contagious. The opportunities for advancement are endless. It is specifically because of the environment and opportunity that its been an easy decision for me to reject other companies recruiting efforts. Even with an initial promise of more pay, there is no way I would gamble with the job satisfaction I currently have. One more thing I want to share is that I have a young family. They are my top priority. Babies in the house mean I am always busy and get very little sleep. Did I mention I get very little sleep My point is - I still wake up every morning enthused and ready to get to work. Being a part of ReachLocal never feels like a chore. I learn something new every day, I am an asset to my clients and I work with the most amazing group of talented professionals. I'm thankful to consider myself a part of something really great."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"One thing to consider if interviewing with ReachLocal is, at heart, we are a sales organization. Having top notch technology, innovative product solutions and industry clout does not eliminate the need for hard work. If you love sales like I do, get excited about selling something that matters but recognize that the backbone of what is required here for success is universal to all sales professions."

What don't you like about working at ReachLocal?

"Even with all of the ReachLocal greatness there are real challenges. As an IMC, you can be pulled in a lot of different directions. Holding yourself accountable to the demands of your clients and the expectations of the company means feeling spread thin at times. The best way to combat this is to stay prepared and organized."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"One thing I would like to see is consistent, concise in-office (real time) training around our product suite. I would also suggest to managers that they implement better in-office strategies for grooming new IMCs once they arrive to local offices from boot camp. Its my opinion that the transition between learning what we do and communicating it effectively needs more coaching. Everyone benefits when IMCs are representing our value, products and expectations correctly to advertisers."

Integrated Marketing Communications Manager

"If they come a calling head for the hills! If you take the job get ready to work long days"

What do you like about working at ReachLocal?

"The people and the core products. The base pay is reasonable. The laptop bags rock."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you are not a cold calling machine you may want to avoid ReachLocal. Tell them you love to hunt."

What don't you like about working at ReachLocal?

"The compensation package is weak until you get your book of business over 50K. The amount of cold calls to appointments is awful. Management has you pushing too many products to prospects. If you like grinding out cold phone calls everyday all day this is the place for you."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"They need to advertise more so potential prospects know that RL is not six guys in a boiler room in India. The training for new IMC's is weak. Do not treat the new hires as just a number. Come up with a better marketing plan than Bang Out More Phone Calls!"

Senior Director of Marketing

"Great Place, particularly when expanding from start up to large corporation"

"Focus on people growth alongside company growth"
