"Tips for JG Construction"

What do you like about working at JG Construction?

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"How are you getting an interview when they have no work"

What don't you like about working at JG Construction?

"Could not maintain already signed contracts after financial disaster! Maintained Company by layoffs and decrease in benefits! Management made plans for certain situations, but never (NEVER) kept there word. I was made to feel like an outsider by the Construction Director (After 1 1/2 years of success)! This is a family (woman owned) business, and they make you feel welcome. BUT, they do not run Construction AT ALL!!!"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Be Honest! Offer Incentives to Superintendents with a successful record and long hours. Quit using the Stick instead of the carrot, especially for Superintendents who complete jobs on schedule, per design, and within budget! Respect those you in-trusted with all the responsibility on the ground. If you cant do this, you should not have hired in the first place! GET IT IN WRITING!!!"

Project Superintendent at Westwood Contractors
in Dallas, TX

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"This company does not follow company polices or rules they have intimated into company."

What do you like about working at Westwood Contractors?

"It started out great till I found out no one followed company rules. I worked there for 2 1/2 yrs the last year was hell. They used subs that had no idea about quality work and time frame of retail projects witch put other good subs behind waiting own them. Being a superintendent I worked 15/7 a week if not more for a weekly salary. I only received this weekly salary if I had worked it would be prorated if I worked lease than five days. I was never compensated for working all these hours while subs did. One big rule owner had was superintendents where not to do any physical work because insurance did not cover use to do so. I was always required to do physical work by my superior and told not to tell owner. I never did say anything. I was let go after 2 1/2 years over my last PM (which was the owners nephew) and project (which was out of my control and authority). PM was never available when needed for change orders, sending notification letters out for subs lack of quality work and time frame being behind, dealing with architect and owner with changes. He hired subs that could not meet owners standards of work (which was prefect) and had no idea how to keep turnover date. This made it imposable for me to complete project on time with quality craftsmanship."

What don't you like about working at Westwood Contractors?

"I love the traveling throughout the United States, working with different people, and projects. I was over complete projects where I was the only one from my company. I had great support from my office."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Your company needs no regulation book or rules because employees do not know when to apply them. Take superintendents (and I am sure other departments), they are told even at company meetings and classes not to perform physical work by owner. While on a project we are told by or superior to override this rule that the owner does not know what it takes to bring in a project on time. I was told numerous times the owner has no idea how to bring in a project. I suggest if an employee is paid by salary they should be paid that way not prorated. I worked 70 to 100 hours a week for a weekly salary setup for 10/6 for six to eleven months at a time with no time off or able to come home. Then when off I was prorated last week and did not even get paid for time off this is some salary. Why I was paid this way was to cheat me from being paid for all the overtime that is required to oversee projects being built. This was on every project for every superintendent not just me. So you cannot say I was a bad superintendent unless everyone else was."
