"I've worked with the company since I was in high school. The turnover of employees is very high, but once you have a good team, Panera is a great place to work. They also give opportunities to move up in the company."

Associate

General Manager

"Hostile working environment and discrimination."

What do you like about working at Panera Bread?

"It's great if you like to be underpaid, overworked, and treated like a dog, and if you like not getting your bonus because you have issues with your superiors. It's great if you like never being told you do a good job, and if you like having no raise in 2.5 years."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"DON'T do it."

What don't you like about working at Panera Bread?

"My dislikes are: harassment, discrimination, disrespect, and having no motivation; not getting a raise, never being written up and then told you suck even when you make your numbers; having no understanding about people with children; having to do the jobs you pay your other salaried managers to do and not being able to penalize them; being boxed in and feeling like you have no upper management to go to with issues; and being forced to quit."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Review upper management personalities for psychological issues. Have exit interviews to find out why staff are just quitting."

Shift Leader

"Great place to work."

What do you like about working at Panera Bread?

"I like the fun environment."

What don't you like about working at Panera Bread?

"There is too much structure."

"The truth!"

What do you like about working at Panera Bread?

"What I did enjoy was the loyalty of some customers."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Make sure the assistant manager, general manager, and district manager are not related! The district manager was the husband of the assistant manager. The assistant manager was the sister-in-law of the general manager."

What don't you like about working at Panera Bread?

"In my particular store, the management was all related. If there was a problem (and there was), you had no one to talk to without fear of repercussions."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Don't put family in the same store or make their family member district manager of the area. Most companies don't allow family together for the purpose of avoiding unbiased opinions when problems arise."

Assistant Restaurant Manager

"A warning about the way this company treats people!"

What do you like about working at Panera Bread?

"Treat people with more respect and honesty."

General Manager

"Exciting team to be a part of."

What do you like about working at Panera Bread?

Associate Trainer

"The job ended."

What do you like about working at Panera Bread?

"I was able to explore the part of my career that I had the most trouble with, and that is public speaking. I was able to mingle with a diversified target market on a global scale, and because of that experience I was able to build up my confidence level in public speaking."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Simply, be honest in everything that you do, whether it be serving a client or working as a team with the company, because with that kind of moral and ethic standard it is hard to go wrong."

What don't you like about working at Panera Bread?

"There came a time when certain people in line with the management were in a status of cognitive dissonance when it came to the following of rules and regulations, so it made the work environment appear to be counterproductive. But in order to get around that, I stayed focused on what I hold to be the only criteria on what makes me successful in a work environment, and that is the binding arbitration that I signed."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I would probably recommend that there are daily proficiency reports that have to be performed mandatorily amongst the management and the personnel, so that certain events of unexpected nature do not become a potential problem in the future."

Manager

"Ugh!!!"

What don't you like about working at Panera Bread?

"The management was condescending toward me, and unsupportive. For a new manager with Panera, there were many opportunities to train and coach. Instead, the GM chose to berate me and make me feel stupid for my attempts to learn. When I approached the district manager regarding these issues, I was told I would be transferred to a different location with a manager with a different management style. The next day the operations director came into the store and began criticizing my work in a very negative manner in front of employees and customers, in effect making the situation worse. In the end, I was backed into a corner and felt the only option was to leave the company."
